Guillaume Matignon is your Grand Prix Bilbao champion!

On Saturday morning, 1,615 players from all over the world entered the main event to take their shot at a winner's trophy in the Modern format. In the end, it was three-time Pro Tour Top 8 competitor Guillaume Matignon (playing Izzet Phoenix) who was triumphant in what was actually his first lifetime Grand Prix Top 8.

In a Top 8 that featured 3 Dredge decks and 2 Izzet Phoenix decks, as well as singleton copies of Shadow Zoo, R/G Valakut, and Whir Prison, Matignon defeated Louis-Samuel Deltour in an all-French finals, earning him the biggest piece of the $50,300 prize pool. In the final game, Deltour  seemed to have it locked up with Chalice of the Void and Ensnaring Bridge, but he got stuck with three blue cards in hand due to Matignon's Blood Moon. Eventually, a pair of Phoenixes attacked for the win.
