MagicFest Utrecht

On Saturday morning, 1,469 players from all over the world entered the main event to take their shot at a winner's trophy in the Throne of Eldraine Limited format. In the end, it was Johannes Alberyd who was triumphant, defeating Tian Fa Mun in the finals and taking the biggest piece of the $50,300 prize pool.

After winning the finals, the first thing that Johannes Alberyd did was to call his girlfriend to share the victory. As it turned out, he had recently become a father and had a deal with his girlfriend that he could go to exactly one Grand Prix this year. Since he had zero byes, he had to scrub out while just having a fun weekend.

But guess what: After building a green sealed deck and drafting green three times in a row—his favorite color in this Limited format "because I like to stomp"—he emerged victorious! His victory comes with a qualification for the first Players Tour in 2020 and the Players Tour finals.

After a long MagicFest weekend, what else is there to do but look forward to the next one. Until then - congratulations to Johannes Alberyd, champion of Grand Prix Utrecht 2019!
