Kyle Gibson is the Grand Prix Brisbane 2019 Champion!

Kyle Gibson wins Grand Prix Brisbane with Jeskai Fires!

Seemingly underrepresented in the Standard PTQ events run this weekend, Jeskai Fires made up half of the Grand Prix Brisbane Top 8, with a Golos Fires deck tipping the numbers well past half way.

Entering the Top 8 in 5th place, Gibson soon bested New Zealand's Jason Chung in a Jeskai Fires mirror, before facing off against Perth's Anthony Lee and his Simic Ramp deck in the semifinals. Over in the other bracket, Chicago's Chih-Cheng Peter Yeh defeated Ryan Cubit's Mardu Knights deck, advancing to the semis to battle against Chris Thompson's Simic Flash deck. Yeh moved on to duel with Gibson in the Jeskai Fires mirror for the finals.

Yeh stumbled in the first game with a mulligan to 5, unable to stop Gibson stoking the Fires of Invention, and again in the second game, Yeh's draw could not hold off Gibson's Cavaliers, each feeding into the next, and Yeh quickly offered the handshake to congratulate Kyle Gibson in becoming the 2019 Grand Prix Brisbane Champion!
